KALAMAZOO, Mich. – Western Michigan dropped game three of this weekend's series to Ball State on Sunday, 3-1. WMU won the opener on Friday, 12-11 in 11 innings and came up short in yesterday's meeting, 5-2.

Ball State opened up game three in similar fashion to yesterday's game, collecting three runs on four hits against Western Michigan starter Patrick Borlik. After the rough start in the first, Borlik kept his composure allowing only four hits throughout the remainder of the game.

Borlik tossed 7.1 innings in the loss, allowing three runs on eight hits and striking out four batters.

Freshman Gabe Berman entered in relief of Borlik and recorded outs on all five batters that he faced, including one strike out.

The Broncos were able to cut down the deficit in the eighth inning when starting catcher Brett Sunde reached base on an error by Ball State's pitcher.  A walk and sacrifice bunt later, Sunde advanced to third and scored on a Vinnie Booker grounder to the second baseman.

Andrew Sohn, Jared Kujawa, Hunter Prince, and Steve Buglione collected hits for the Broncos.

The series victory by Ball State marks the first series win over the Broncos since 2010.

Western Michigan will travel to East Lansing, Mich. on Tuesday, April 9 to battle in-state rival Michigan State. The midweek contest will begin at 3:00 p.m.
