Broncos Draw at Akron, 1-1

AKRON, Ohio -- The Western Michigan women's soccer team battled Akron to a 1-1 tie on the road on Friday night.

Diana Dedvukaj fired four of her nine shots on goal and was rewarded with her third goal of the season. Junior goalkeeper Michelle Watson made four saves on the night, while the Broncos outshot the Zips 23-11.

"It was great to score a goal today," said head coach Nate Norman. "It was a fantastic goal by Didi. We were disappointed to not hold on to the lead though. This makes Sunday the biggest game of the season for us.

Dedvukaj gave the Broncos (5-7-4, 1-3-4 MAC) the lead in the 26th minute on a low shot from 20 yards out. Rachel Chaney tallied the assist on the goal, earning her second of the season.

Akron's Karina Atkinson netted the game-tying goal in the 41st minute. The Broncos had two chanches in overtime but Akron was able to snuff both of them out.

The Broncos head to Buffalo on Sunday for a pivotal game. WMU is in need of points to climb in the standings to make the Mid-American Conference Tournament.
