Alex Carder Named MAC Male Scholar Athlete of the Week

KALAMAZOO, Mich. - Alex Carder is the first WMU student-athlete to earn Mid-American Conference Student-Athlete of the Week for the 2012-13 season.

Carder (Senior, 3.657, Communications) threw for over 300 yards in a game for the 12th time in his career and first time this season, registering 364 yards on 29-of-40 passing in a 52-21 victory over Eastern Illinois this past weekend.

The Shawnee, Kan., native also threw five TDs in the win, marking the fifth time in his career he has accomplished that feat.  Carder found three different receivers for a TD, one to tight end Matt Cutler (2 yds), two to receiver Jaime Wilson (13 yds, 16 yds) and two to tight end Blake Hammond (1 yd, 2 yds).

The MAC Scholar Athlete of the Week honor is presented to a MAC male and female student-athlete who has a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or better and performs well during the week's competition. The winners are selected by a group of the conference's faculty athletic representatives.
