KALAMAZOO, Mich. - Alex Carder is the first WMU student-athlete to earn Mid-American Conference Student-Athlete of the Week for the 2012-13 season.
Carder (Senior, 3.657, Communications) threw for over 300 yards in
a game for the 12th time in his career and first time this season,
registering 364 yards on 29-of-40 passing in a 52-21 victory over
Eastern Illinois this past weekend.
The Shawnee, Kan., native also threw five TDs in the
win, marking the fifth time in his career he has accomplished that
feat. Carder found three different receivers for a TD, one to tight end
Matt Cutler (2 yds), two to receiver Jaime Wilson (13 yds, 16 yds) and
two to tight end Blake Hammond (1 yd, 2 yds).
The
MAC Scholar Athlete of the Week honor is presented to a MAC male and
female student-athlete who has a cumulative grade point average of 3.0
or better and performs well during the week's competition. The winners
are selected by a group of the conference's faculty athletic
representatives.
