Women's Soccer Winning Streak Ends at Valparaiso

VALPARAISO, Ind. -- The Western Michigan women's soccer team suffered its first lost since the season-opener, falling to Valparaiso 2-0 on the road on Friday night.

The Broncos (4-2-0) outshot the Crusaders 14-7 but goals by Tara Ellis and Luisa DeSario put WMU away, ending their four-game winning streak.

"We played a tough team tonight," said head coach Nate Norman. "All the credit goes to Valparaiso for making it difficult on us. We will be be back ready to go on Sunday."

Ellis game Valpo a 1-0 lead on a free kick from 20 yards out. Ellis placed her shot form the right flank into the top-left corner of the net with just under five minutes left in the first period.

DeSario gave the Crusaders a 2-0 lead at 58:24 when she knocked in her own rebound to net her third goal of the season.

Down two goals the Broncos pressed late in the second half but were only able to land two of their eight second-half shots on net. Valparaiso goalkeeper Kristen Manski made six saves on the night to earn the shutout.

WMU hosts Loyola Chicago on Sunday at 3 p.m. at the WMU Soccer Complex.
