KALAMAZOO, Mich. - The Broncos were back to work on Monday after their day of rest and both sides of the ball executed exceptionally well in today's practice. The second day of two-a-days showed that both sides of the ball are starting to gain more consistency and develop.

Monday's practice was filled with intensity, as there was never a dull or quiet moment for that matter. During 7-on-7 drills, sophomore corner Donald Celiscar was warned by head coach Bill Cubit when he proceeded to lay a big hit on freshman receiver Daniel Braverman. This seemed to set off a bomb of intensity as the next team drill proceeded with the defensive sidelines ramping up the noise with their screams.

"We've got to be smart and not hurt are own players, " said Cubit, when he stopped practice to tell his players.

During the 7-on-7 and team drills, quarterback Alex Carder seemed to be benefiting from the day off yesterday by completing many down the field throws including a perfectly placed 20-yard sideline throw that was caught by junior receiver Justin Collins. Though throwing down field is a strong part of the offense, many plays in today's practice showed the screen game as well.

"It's a good way to mix it up," said Carder. "As much as we go down field, it's a way to keep the defense on their toes."

The screen pass and utilizing the running back any way possible for the WMU offense is key in winning games this season.

"We want to try and be balanced and as unpredictable as possible." Carder said.

Towards the end of practice the defensive players, who were high with energy, made as much noise as possible to try and throw off the offense during the final team drill. This however did not work, but helped the offense get ready for a game-like atmosphere. The shouting started with junior rover Johnnie Simon, which prompted Carder to do some jawing right back.

"Johnnie is surely the ring-leader over there," Carder said. "But I have to step up and represent the offense."

While there was much talking going on on the field, there was also talk going on off the field with eight regional representatives from the NFL at practice. The eight teams included the Miami Dolphins, New Orleans Saints, Carolina Panthers, Oakland Raiders, Indianapolis Colts, Buffalo Bills and the Jacksonville Jaguars. 

From watching the Broncos practice, you can tell that football season is in full swing and that the players want to line up against somebody other than the Brown & Gold.
