Nivia Captures Player of the Week Honor

CLEVELAND, Ohio - The Mid-American Conference announced today it's honorees for the MAC Women's Tennis Player of the Week, with Western Michigan senior Maria Nivia capturing the award for the first time this season.  It is the fourth time this year a Bronco has won the award; Nivia joins Caroline Aleck, Rachel Denny, and Nini Sujashvili as a weekly award winner this season.

Nivia went 4-0 for the Broncos this past weekend, helping the Broncos to a pair of points against Akron and a singles win against Buffalo. Nivia teamed with Jill Pastunink in the No. 2 doubles against Akron, beating Angelika Jogasuria and Natalia Kuvakina 9-8 (5) to tie the overall doubles session for the Broncos; Western Michigan would later take the doubles point. Nivia would go on to defeat Prang Pantusart 6-3, 6-2 in the No. 3 singles match.

Against Buffalo on Saturday, Nivia would again pair with Pastunink in the No. 2 doubles, this team beating Anamaria Candanoza and Tamara Markovic 8-3. Nivia would finish of her weekend with a solid singles win over Markovic, winning the No. 3 singles match 6-0, 6-4.
