ATHENS, Ga. -- Sophomore
Andrea Hiler shined in day two of the Georgia Relays as she turned in the program's third best distance in the discus for Western Michigan on Saturday afternoon.
Hiler took second overall with a distance of 160 feet, three inches to enter WMU's top three in the discus performance list. Field events were good for WMU this weekend as
Chiara Allen broke the school triple jump record yesterday, while
Iris Campbell took second in the long jump today with a distance of 19 feet, two inches.
"We had some ups and downs this weekend but we did really well in the field events," said head coach
Kelly Lycan. "We definitely have some things to work on, but it is our first step and we have a long way to go until the MAC Championship. We have some marks up on the board and we will look to get better next week."
The Broncos took first and second overall in the open 400 meter dash with the senior
Victoria Chatman taking the top place with a time of 54.35 seconds.
Andrea Arnold took second with a time of 55.27. The two also helped the Broncos to a win in the 4x400 meter relay. Chatman, Arnold, Campbell and
Leya Munwam combined for a time of 3:44.52, edging out hosts George by just under two seconds.
Samantha Draney took third overall in the 1,500 meter run in her first action since last year's outdoor season. Draney, a senior, exhausted her eligibility for indoor track and field last season but had one remaining outdoor season left after an injury forced her to redshirt. The Allegan, Mich., native finished with a time of 4:34.49.
Amber Brunmeier and
Teresa Marin turned in personal-best performances in the 1500 with Brunmeier turning in a time of 4:48.10 and Marin finishing at 4:45.27.
Senior sprinter
Stephanie Okolo had a busy day, winning the 100 meter dash with a time of 12.04 and then helping the 4x100 meter relay and the 800 meter Sprint Medley relays to strong finishes. Okolo combined with Arnold, Campbell and Chatman turned in a time of 46.54 to take second place.

Lindsey Hufnagel took second in the 800 sprint medley with a time of 1:46.18.
WMU also picked up wins the 4x800 and distance medley relays.
Jeriesha Tucker,
Aisha Hodge,
Cara Cremeans and
Rachel Whitley combined to run a time of 9:07.36, more than 26 seconds ahead of second place Georgia in their win. The Broncos were the only team in the distance medley, fielding three teams. The "A" team of Hodge, Tucker, Cremeans and
Brittany Calhoun combined for a time of 12:20.47. The 4x200 meter relay team of Hufnagel, Okolo, Munwam and
Cha'nese Mendenhall combined to take second place with a time of 1:40.74.
WMU looks to improve its marks next week the Broncos head to Eastern Illinois for the Big Blue Invitational next Friday and Saturday.
