QUICK HITS - NOTES FROM LAST NIGHT
JUST CALL GREG SQUIRES BUTTER, CAUSE HE'S ON A ROLL: Greg Squires netted the game-winning goal in last nights win to extend his goal-scoring streak to three games. It is the second longest goal scoring streak this season for any Bronco, with Chase Balisy having the season-high of five.
The streak started in WMU's 4-1 win over Bowling Green on Jan. 27. His third goal of the season ended a 23 game goal scoring drought. Five on the season, he now just sits two goals shy of tying his career high that he set his freshman season and tied last season.
HOME ICE ADVANTAGE: With last night's win WMU is now 5-0-1 in its last six CCHA home games. Frank Slubowski has started every one of those games and during the streak has a 0.99 goals against average and a .957 save percentage.
During the six game run the Bronco defense has help opponents to six goals and have only given up one power play goal in 22 chances.
THE RACE FOR THE BLACK & BLUE AWARD: The Broncos blocked 12 shots in their 2-1 win over Alaska. Sophomore defenseman Dan DeKeyser leads all Broncos with 55 of the season, while his blue line partner Luke WItkowski sits just behind him with 50. Senior captain Ian Slater is the top shot-blocking forward on the team with 25 so far this season.
FIVE IN A ROW: WMU is now undefeated in their last five games against Alaska. Last season the Broncos went up to Fairbanks and picked up a win and a shootout win. They repeated their efforts earlier this season in October, beating Alaska 4-1 before tying them 2-2 the following night.
