EVANSTON, Ill. - The Western Michigan men's tennis team took a pair of points from their ranked Big Ten opponent, but the Broncos ultimately fell by a 5-2 score to the 62nd-ranked Northwestern Wildcats in Evanston on Saturday. With the loss, the Broncos fall to 4-3 on the season.
The Broncos fell behind quickly to the Wildcats, dropping the doubles point but posting a pair of singles wins against their ranked opposition. Sophomore Nadin Indre recorded an impressive win in the No. 1 singles match, defeating the Wildcats' Sidarth Balaji in a three-set thriller 2-6, 6-1, 6-4.
Ross VanderPloeg was also victorious, winning the No. 5 singles on a second-set tiebreaker against Alex Pasareanu 6-2, 7-6 (9). Aaron Wong came the closest to making it just a one-point match, falling in three sets to Nikhi Jayashankar 6-1, 3-6, 7-6 (4).
The Broncos will be back in action on Sunday when they take on the Illinois State Redbirds. Match time is scheduled for 11:30 a.m.
