WMU Softball's Fall Ball Begins in Traverse City

KALAMAZOO, Mich. - The Western Michigan softball team may not officially start its pursuit of back-to-back Mid-American Conference titles until February but the Broncos' begin preparation this weekend in the Traverse City West Collegiate Softball Tournament (Sept. 17-18).

The Broncos are joined by fellow MAC team Central Michigan and fellow 2011 NCAA Regional participant Michigan in this weekend's event.  Saginaw Valley State and Ferris State are also in this year's field.

Saturday's schedule opens with the Broncos and the Wolverines in a rematch from last season's regional showdown at 10:30 a.m.  WMU has a quick turn around and then take on the Chippewas at 12 p.m.  The Broncos close out the day against Saginaw Valley State at 2 p.m.

Western Michigan will again play Michigan on Sunday at 10:30 a.m., followed by Ferris State at 12 p.m.  WMU closes out the day with a rematch with CMU at 2 p.m.

All games are scheduled to be five innings.  After the round robin schedule concludes, the teams will be seeded based on the following criteria:

 

1.  BEST RECORD
2.  HEAD TO HEAD
3.  LOWEST RUNS SCORED AGAINST
4.  HIGHEST TOTAL RUNS SCORED
5.  FLIP OF COIN
