KALAMAZOO, Mich. - The Western Michigan women's tennis team looked to rewrite history in a rematch of the 2010 Mid-American Conference championship, but the Miami Redhawks took the first three points en route to a 6-1 win at the West Hills Athletic Club on Saturday. The Broncos fall to 9-10 overall, 2-2 in MAC play.
The Broncos battled well in the doubles play, but ultimately were unable to overcome a tenacious Redhawks squad in dropping two of the three matches. The lone win for WMU came in the No. 1 singles match, as the duo of April Kerr and Nini Sujashvili battled back from an early deficit to win 9-7. Kerr & Sujashvili trailed for most of the match, but won an exciting final set to give the team some momentum heading into singles play.
Despite that momentum, the Redhawks were able to jump out to an overall 3-0 lead with wins in the No. 3 and No. 2 singles matches, in that order. The Broncos were able to stave off elimination when Amanda Moccia took the No. 6 singles match 6-4, 6-1 to make it 3-1, but a Miami victory in the No. 4 singles match assured the win.
