KALAMAZOO, Mich. - The Western Michigan tennis team earned its second consecutive Mid-American Conference win, shutting down the Ball State Cardinals 7-0 at the West Hills Athletic Club in Kalamazoo. With the win, the Broncos even their overall record at 9-9 overall, with a 2-1 record in the MAC. They will take on the defending MAC champion Miami Redhawks tomorrow.
The Broncos opened up the match by sweeping the doubles competition, going 3-0 in doubles play. The tandem of Amanda Moccia and Maggie Remynse registered the first result of the day, defeating the pair of Sarah Hebble and Lauren Pickrel 8-2 in the No. 3 doubles match. April Kerr and Nini Sujashvili officially locked up the doubles point by winning the No. 1 doubles match 8-5, and Jill Pastunink & Maria Nivia preserved the perfect round with an 8-6 win in the No. 2 doubles match.
In singles play, Moccia dominated play in the No. 6 singles and gave the Broncos their first singles win of the day, going 6-0, 6-0 against BSU's Kylee Johnson. Rachel Denny won her sixth match in a row, eighth in her last 11, by defeating Paola Rodriguez 6-0, 6-3 in the No. 5 singles match, and Maggie Remynse snapped a modest two-match losing streak by putting away Georgina Thomson 6-4, 6-1 in the No. 1 singles match to officially seal the win for WMU.

After Pastunink took the No. 4 singles match 7-5, 6-4, WMU required tiebreakers to win the No. 2 and No. 3 singles matches. On court six, Sujashvili overcame a second set loss to defeat Kristel Sanders 6-2, 4-6, 1-0 (10-6) to take the No. 2 match, while Nivia overcame a deficit to defeat Sarah Hebble 5-7, 6-1, 1-0 (10-8) in the No. 3 match.
