KALAMAZOO, Mich.- The Western Michigan women's tennis team recorded a pair of victories over regional foes, defeating UIC, 4-3, and Cleveland State, 5-2, Saturday at West Hills Athletic Club. Nini Sujashvili led WMU with four wins on the day. The Bronco were 5 for 6 in doubles play combined. With the two wins, Western Michigan improved to 5-6 on the season.
WMU set the tone early, sweeping all three doubles matches against UIC. Tied 3-3, Maggie Remynse clinched the win for WMU in a thrilling 6-2, 6-7 (6-8), 6-2 victory over Mariya Kovaleva.
The Bronco won two of three to take the doubles point against Cleveland State, then rattled off the first four singles victories. With the win already going to WMU, Cleveland State managed to take the final two matches at No. 5 and No. 6 singles.
Western Michigan travels to Indianapolis for two matches next Saturday, March 12. The Broncos face Butler at 11 a.m. and then IUPUI at 7 p.m.
