KALAMAZOO, Mich. - The final home weekend of the 2010 Western Michigan softball season takes place this Friday through Sunday with a doubleheader with the 2009 Mid-American Conference Tournament champion Miami RedHawks on Friday and a two-game series against MAC West leader Ball State. The Broncos also say good-bye to four seniors during Senior Day on Sunday.
JUST LIKE THAT • The 2010 Western Michigan home season comes to an end this weekend as the Broncos host Miami in a doubleheader on April 30 and then welcome MAC West leader Ball State for a two-game series on May 1-2.
Four Bronco seniors will also play there final games at Fran Ebert Field this weekend as Molly Lange, Meghan & Sarah Thomas and Chelsea Westenburg will all be honored on Senior Day prior to Sunday's game against the Cardinals.
HITTING HER STRIDE • Gracie Barstad continues her hot hitting for the Broncos during her sophomore campaign. Last week she was the only Bronco to have multiple hits in each of WMU's two games, collecting two hits in each game. She now has 10 multi-hit games this season and 16 for her career.
SHUT IT DOWN • Meredith Whitney notched her first solo shutout of the season in a 1-0 win over Northern Illinois. The victory raised her record over the .500 mark for the first time this season.
MOVIN' ON UP • Meredith Whitney moved into fifth place on the career strikeout list at Western Michigan, surpassing former Bronco Krysten Shumaker. Shumaker left the program with 289 Ks and Whitney has 293. She is only seven strikeouts away from becoming the fifth Bronco with at least 300 in her career.
ON DECK • WMU travels down I-94 to take on No. 2 Michigan on May 4. It will be the Broncos' last non-conference game of the year and marks the first nationally ranked opponent since playing No. 11 California on Feb. 13. WMU closes out the regular season at Eastern Michigan and Central Michigan on May 7-9.
