NICE TO MEET YOU
Western Michigan and the University of Washington are meeting for the first time ever. WMU will travel to Seattle next season in a return game. The last time WMU played a PAC-10 school was in 2003-04, a 75-66 loss at Arizona State. The Broncos are 2-4 all-time against PAC-10 schools. Washington is 6-1 all-time against MAC schools.
WMU TAKES SPIRIT OUT OF SAINT LOUIS
The Brown & Gold put a halt to a three-game losing streak, defeating Saint Louis, 54-53, Sunday at University Arena. Junior guard Taylor Manley led WMU with 17 points and sophomore Miame Giden recorded 11 points, all of which came in the second half. Senior Molly Dwyer chipped in nine points and a career-high 10 rebounds. Her 10 boards were the most by a Bronco this season.
WINNING AT THE WIRE
Three of Western Michigan's four wins have been by five points or less. WMU's biggest margin of victory was seven points, that win coming in overtime, 87-80 over Loyola-Chicago. The Broncos are 2-1 at home this season.
LOOKING AHEAD
Tuesday's game is the last in a three-game homestand. Western Michigan travels to Harrisonburg, Va., for the James Madison Invitational, Dec. 29-30. The Broncos play UNC Asheville Tuesday, Dec. 29 at 5 p.m., then will play either Lafayette College or James Madison the following day in the consolation or championship game. There will be no Bronco radio broadcast on the Virginia road trip. Audio and video for games involving JMU will be available at JMUSports.com. (Click on Multimedia, then Live Events.)
DIALING IN
The Broncos have made almost twice as many three-pointers through the first 10 games of the season than it did last year. The Broncos have drained 65 triples in 2009-10 and made just 33 three's at this point last season. WMU has one more win than it did last year through 10 games.
GIDEN THE OFFENSE
Sophomore Miame Giden (pronounced GUIDE-in) leads Western Michigan in scoring and rebounding. Her 16.2 points per game ranks in the top 10 in the Mid-American Conference and she is pulling in 5.1 rebounds per game. Junior Taylor Manley is also averaging double figures with 12.7 ppg. WMU has five players who average four rebounds or more per game.
DID YOU KNOW?
Sophomore Miame Giden and senior Molly Dwyer are the only two Broncos to start all 10 games this season.
