MUNCIE, Ind. -- The Western Michigan women's soccer team battle Ball State to a 1-1 tie on Sunday afternoon to close out its regular season Mid-American Conference road schedule.
The Broncos took the lead in the 38th minute. Senior outside-back Emily Peterson threw the ball in from the sideline to Caitlin Henderson. Henderson ripped a shot from 30 yards out from the top corner outside the box. The ball sailed in her for second goal of the season.
Western Michigan kept pressure on the Cardinals in the first half, getting four of its six shots in the half on net. The momentum changed in the second half and Ball State started to pick up the pace.
The Broncos tried to hold off a Cardinal rally but Megan Ridley netted a goal in the 89th minute. Missy Gordon crossed the ball to Paige Stroinski and Stroinski flicked the ball over to Ridley, who buried it from 18 yards out to square the game, 1-1.
Western Michigan out shot Ball State seven-to-one in the two overtime periods, landing three of them on net but the Broncos could not get one past BSU goalkeeper Amy Cleeter as the game finished in a 1-1 tie.
The Broncos finished their final regular season road trip with 1-0-1 and picked up four points in the Mid-American Conference standings. Before Sunday's tie, WMU was in eighth place in the MAC with 11 points, four points ahead of ninth place Buffalo. Western Michigan must finish in the top eight to make it to the MAC Tournament.
Western Michigan hosts last-place Northern Illinois on Thursday at 2 p.m. for its final game of the regular season.
