Broncos and Eagles Play to Scoreless Tie

Box Score

KALAMAZOO, Mich.- Neither Western Michigan nor Eastern Michigan could come up with a goal in 110 minutes of play, resulting in a scoreless tie Friday afternoon at the WMU Soccer Complex.

With the tie, WMU record moves to 5-6-3 on the year and 2-2-2 in Mid-American Conference play. Eastern Michigan stands at 7-3-5 overall, 3-1-3 in the MAC.

Both team had golden opportunities to take away a win but could not capitalize. The Broncos edged EMU in the offensive end, taking 14 shots to the Eagles 10. Both placed four shots on goal.

The best looks didn't find their target, as open chances sailed high and wide for both teams. Freshmen Megan Matula and Anina Cicerone led Western Michigan with four shots each. Ashley Rodrigues, Carissa Wilson and Chelsea Detrick each had two for EMU.

Western Michigan denied the Eagles any scoring chances in the first half, not allowing a shot in the first 45 minutes. EMU came out with more pace in the second period, earning four corner kicks. They had six total compared to WMU's three on the day.

Senior Sarah Phillips made three saves for WMU.

The Broncos return to their home pitch Sunday at 4 p.m. to take on Central Michigan. The league-leading Chippewas are undefeated in conference play with seven wins and no losses. The Chips defeated Northern Illinois on the road in overtime, 1-0, Friday.
