Broncos Fall to RedHawks, 1-0

Box Score

KALAMAZOO, Mich. -- The Western Michigan women's soccer team fell to Miami, 1-0, on a windy Sunday afternoon at the WMU Soccer Complex.

Miami's Danielle Hays scored the lone goal of the game in the 71st minute in the second half. The Broncos turned the ball over in the midfield and Miami ran down the center of the field with Hays firing a shot from 15 yards out and beating WMU goaltender Julia Francy on the lower left side of the net. Francy tied a season-high with eight saves in the losing effort.

"Today was a tough one," said head coach Mike Haines. "I thought we struggled in the last 20 minutes of the first half. We came out playing much better in the second half and started to get more active. At the end of the day we are disappointed with losing this one."

The Broncos fired off seven shots on net but RedHawk goalkeeper Krista Pace was able to stop them all. Western Michigan had a good scoring chance in the 16th minute, but Kelsey Carmichael's shot went off the corner of the cross-bar and out. Carmichael had another chance in the 85th minute but Pace made the save, keeping the Broncos off the scoreboard.

The loss ends Western Michigan's five-game undefeated streak.

The Broncos finish the regular season on Thursday by hosting Northern Illinois at 3 p.m. at the WMU Soccer Complex.
