KALAMAZOO, Mich.- The Western Michigan men's soccer team will host Davenport in exhibition action Wednesday at 3 p.m. at the WMU Soccer Complex. It will be the first of two preseason matches for the Broncos, who also host DePaul as part of the Bronco Soccer Alumni Weekend on Sunday at 2 p.m.
The Brown & Gold reported to preseason camp on Tuesday, Aug. 12, and Wednesday's exhibition contest will be the first time the Broncos put their skills to test against an opponent this year.
Western Michigan returns 14 players from last season's roster and welcomes 14 newcomers, including 11 freshmen. A youthful squad boasts just one senior in
Jordan Fylonenko, the team's second-leading returning goal scorer. The Broncos' will also be led by a strong junior class and captain
Shaun Clements and co-captain
Tyler Rosenhagen.
The WMU Soccer Alumni Weekend is also right around the corner, kicking off Friday with the Bronco women's soccer regular-season home-opener against Wyoming at 11 a.m. Later that evening, alumni and friends of both the men's and women's programs will gather for a social at the Radisson Hotel in downtown Kalamazoo at 9 p.m.
Saturday will begin with the men's soccer Alumni Game at 10 p.m., at the WMU Soccer Complex and will be followed by the annual Bronco Soccer Golf Outing at 2 p.m. at Lake Cora Hills Golf Club in Paw Paw, Mich.
The women's Alumni Game will be held Sunday at 10 a.m., and the weekend will conclude with the men's exhibition contest against DePaul at 2 p.m.
