Bronco Track & Field Travels to Ann Arbor for Michigan Intercollegiates

KALAMAZOO, Mich. -- The Western Michigan women's track & field team will travel to Ann Arbor, Mich. for its fifth indoor meet of the season, the Michigan Intercollegiates. The events are scheduled to run all day Friday and Saturday at the University of Michigan Indoor Track Building.

The Broncos will compete with Michigan, Michigan State, Central Michigan, Eastern Michigan, Oakland University and the University of Detroit. The Wolverines have won the event the last ten times, but Western Michigan finished in second place. It was the best finish that WMU has ever taken in the Michigan Intercollegiates. The competition will be tough, Michigan heads into the meet ranked No. 4 in the nation. The Broncos will face a mix of tough teams and tough individuals.

The Broncos, now entering the mid-season portion of their indoor track schedule, hope to build and improve upon their performance from previous meets. WMU's 4x400 relay team of Danielle Brown, Jennifer Sabra, Becky Horn, and Victoria Chatman remains undefeated after a strong performance last week in the Gladstein Invitational hosted by Indiana University. The team posted their fastest time of the season, clocking in at 3:45.29, to win their fourth race of the season.

Horn had a strong showing at last year's Michigan Intercollegiates, by breaking the Jack Skoog Indoor Track record in the 400-meter run with a time of 55.24.

Three freshmen have stepped up recently for the Broncos and are currently in the top 10 on the team in points scored. Chatman is currently seventh with 32.5, Ashley Hunault is currently eighth with 25, and Samantha Draney is currently 10th with 19.

Results will be available at www.wmubroncos.com shortly after the completion of the final event on each day.
