Champion, Watkins and Wilcoxson Named Academic All-MAC

CLEVELAND -- The Western Michigan golf team landed three student-athletes on the Academic All-Mid-American Conference Team as released by the conference office on Wednesday.

Julia Champion, Kaitlyn Watkins and Anna Wilcoxson all earned the honors for their performance on the course and in the classroom. The Academic All-MAC honor is for a student-athlete who has excelled in athletics and academics. To qualify, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.20 cumulative GPA and have participated in at least 50 percent of the contests for that particular sport.

Champion earns the honors for the first time in her career. The sophomore sports a 3.83 GPA in criminal justice. Watkins and Wilcoxson both earned the honors for the second time in their careers. Watkins had a team-high 3.94 GPA in accountancy, while Wilcoxson holds a 3.58 exercise science.

All three now have the potential to be named MAC Distinguished Scholar Athlete, which are voted on by the faculty academic representatives from each of the 12 MAC schools.
