OXFORD, Ohio – Western Michigan women's tennis will advance to the semifinals in the Mid-American Conference Tournament after defeating No. 6 seed Toledo 4-2, on Friday afternoon. The No. 3 seed Broncos are looking to win their sixth MAC Tournament Championship and earn their first NCAA bid since 2007.

WMU started things off by winning the doubles point with wins at No. 1 and No. 3 doubles. Junior Tracy Kuhle and freshman Melina Lyubomirova defeated Toledo's Sidnay Huck and Lauren Thai 6-1 at No. 1 doubles. The duo of junior Meika Ashby and freshman Denise Azcui defeated Claire Aleck and Rani Goodland 6-0 at No. 3 doubles.

"Great team effort today!," head coach Ryan Tomlinson said. "We got off to a great start in doubles."

In singles, Kuhle won in straight sets at No. 2 singles 6-3, 6-0 to put the Broncos up 2-0. Junior Barbare Eristavi extended the Brown and Gold's lead to 3-0 by defeating Emily Mazzola 6-1, 7-5. Toledo struck back taking the No. 1 singles match and earning a point to make the score 3-1. Azcui clinched the match for the Broncos at No. 6 singles, after dropping the first set, Azcui came back strong to defeat Lauren Thai 3-6, 6-2, 6-2.

"Denise did a nice job of battling back after a first set loss and clinching for us," Tomlinson said. "We will have to play well tomorrow to win, they (Miami) are defending champions for a reason."

Western Michigan will face No. 2 seed Miami in the semifinals tomorrow at 2 p.m ET. If the Broncos advance they will face the winner of No. 1 Ball State and No. 5 Buffalo in the championship at noon on Sunday.
