TOLEDO, Ohio -- Having already clinched the Mid-American Conference (MAC) Regular season title, the Western Michigan men's tennis team didn't hold back and ended the regular season with a 6-1 win over Toledo Saturday afternoon on the road.
The Broncos moved to 18-5 overall and 6-1 in the MAC, making them the lone team with one loss in the conference. They won their third straight match and 10th out of the last 11 overall. The Broncos will go to the MAC Tournament in DeKalb, Ill., as the No. 1 seed.
The doubles team of Jefta Kecic/Ruben Greiner got it started for the Broncos, earning a 6-2 win at No. 3 to extend their winning streak to six matches. The duo of Ruben Greiner/Stephen Payne clinched the doubles point with a 7-5 win at No. 1 as they improved to 4-0 this season.
In singles, WMU took wins at No. 2 through No. 6. Greiner, who recently had a 13-match winning streak, earned the first win of the day with a 6-1, 6-2 win over Vince Anzlone at No. 4 to improve to 20-5 overall and 6-1 in the MAC. Kecic dominated at No. 2, winning 6-3, 6-3 and junior Daniel Loebel earned the match clicher with a 7-5, 6-3 win at No. 5 to move to 24-10 overall. Junior Matt Hamilton extended his winning streak to five matches with a win at No. 2 and senior Andrew Cahn won his fifth straight with a 7-5, 6-4 win at No. 6.
