BINGHAMTON, N.Y. -- The Western Michigan men's tennis team saw its seven-match winning streak come to an end on the road at Binghamton where the Bearcats were victorious 4-3. The Broncos, who suffered their first Mid-American Conference loss, fall to 15-5 overall and 3-1 in the MAC.
WMU came out and won the doubles point as the duo of Maik Steiner/Matt Hamilton started it out with a 6-2 win at No. 2 to improve to 25-4 and extend their winning streak to eight matches. The doubles point was clinched as the duo of Jefta Kecic/Jimmy Beckwith won 6-4 at No. 3 to improve to 9-2 this season.
In singles, the Bearcats won the first two matches to take a 2-1 lead before Steiner earned a 6-3, 4-6, 6-2 win at No. 2 to tie it up at 2-2. Hamilton brought the Broncos one win away from clinching the match with a 6-3, 4-6, 6-2 win at No. 3. However, Binghamton came back to earn the last two wins and upset WMU. Ruben Greiner's 13-match winning streak, Daniel Loebel's nine-match winning streak and Kecic's five-match winning streak were all snapped by the Bearcats.
