CLEVELAND – The Western Michigan gymnastics team had seven student-athletes named to the All-MAC Academic Team the league announced on Tuesday. Earning the honors were Jessi Buis, Anna Corbett, Kelsey Hood, Jessica Juncaj, Audry Merritt, Jessie Peszek and Kayla Weber.
The total is one more than last season when six gymnasts were named to the list. Buis, Corbett, Merritt, Peszek and Weber are repeat selections and Hood and Juncaj are earning the honor for the first time.
The Academic All-MAC honor is for a student-athlete who has excelled in athletics and academics. To qualify, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.20 cumulative GPA and have participated in at least 50 percent of the contests for that particular sport.
