KALAMAZOO, Mich. – The No. 75 ranked Western Michigan men's tennis team will look to stay perfect in Mid-American Conference play with a home match against Northern Illinois on Friday, March 25 at West Hills/Sorensen Courts.
The Broncos are coming in at 14-4 overall, 2-0 in the MAC and are winners of 10 of their last 11 matches and six in a row. The Huskies come in at 14-5 overall, 2-0 in the MAC and are 10-3 when playing at their home facility. They are also winners of six of their last seven matches and four overall.
The Broncos are led in singles play by freshman Matej Svjetlicic, who carries a 26-9 record and has won three in a row. Senior Ruben Greiner, who was just named the MAC Scholar Athlete of the Week, is on a 12-match winning streak and is 16-4 this season. Junior Daniel Loebel is 21-8 and is on an eight-match winning streak while junior Matt Hamilton is 19-8. Sophomores Jefta Kecic and Maik Steiner, both 2015 First Team All-MAC selections, are 13-11 and 15-12, respectively.
In doubles play, Hamilton/Steiner have been a force to deal with at 23-4 overall and 11-1 together this spring. They were just named the MAC Doubles Team of the Week for the third time this season and have won six matches in a row. The duo of Greiner/Loebel is 12-6 while senior Jimmy Beckwith/Kecic are 8-2.
