KALAMAZOO, Mich. – Western Michigan women's tennis will have a full slate of matches this weekend playing Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
The Broncos are coming in at 7-3 overall, 5-0 at home and are winners of three straight matches. Last weekend, they downed Bradley 6-1 at home. WMU will first go on the road to face Big Ten foe and No. 75 ranked Michigan State (4-3) Friday, Feb. 26 at 5 p.m. On Saturday Feb. 27 at 3 p.m., WMU will host Cleveland State (3-3) and then end the weekend hosting Chicago State (0-8) at 3 p.m.
In singles play this season, the Broncos have an overall record of 78-49 and are 35-22 this Spring. Freshman Melina Lyubomirova leads the team with a 15-8 record while junior Tracy Kuhle is 14-8 and freshman Katja Fevralev is 13-4. Two other WMU players have hit double-digit wins in freshman Denise Azcui (11-8) junior Barbare Eristavi (10-8).
In doubles play, the team is 41-27 overall and 19-7 this spring. The duo of Lyubomirova/Kuhle have been dominant as of late going 12-4 overall, 8-2 this spring and winners of their last five matches. They were named the MAC Doubles Team of the Week for three consecutive weeks for their efforts. The duo of senior Meika Ashby/Azcui is 4-1 this spring while Eristavi/Fevrale is 3-1.
