KALAMAZOO, Mich. – The Western Michigan women's tennis team is set to put its perfect home record on the line as it hosts Bradley at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 20 at West Hills Athletic Club.
The Broncos will come into this match 6-3 overall and a perfect 4-0 at home this season while the Braves, members of the Missouri Valley Conference, will enter at 6-2 overall and are winners of six in a row. WMU leads the all-time series 11-0, against Bradley.
The Broncos are coming off a 4-3 thrilling win over Marquette at home where it came down to junior Tracy Kuhle in the No. 3 spot. Kuhle won the first set 6-3, but dropped the second set 7-6 (7-4) to Paula Tormos-Sanchez of the Golden Eagles. In a back-and-forth third set, Kuhle came out on top 7-6 (7-4) to give the Broncos the win.
This season, the Broncos are led by freshman Melina Lyubomirova who maintains a 14-8 singles record. Kuhle and freshman Katja Fevralev are tied for second in wins at 13-8 and 13-4, respectively. In doubles play, Kuhle/Lyubomirova lead the team with an 11-4 record. They are also 7-2 in dual match season, are winners of four straight matches and have been named the MAC Doubles Team of the Week for back-to-back weeks. As a team, WMU is 73-48 in singles play and 39-27 in doubles this season.
The Braves enter at 84-67 in singles play and 40-38 in doubles. The team is led by Malini Wijesinghe in singles wins (13-6) and the duo of Ariel Dechter/Irinka Toidze (15-6) have the team's top record in doubles.
