KALAMAZOO, Mich. – The Western Michigan women's tennis team is all set to host Marquette in a nonconference battle on Saturday, Feb. 13 at West Hills Athletic Club with match time scheduled for 11 a.m.
The Broncos are coming off a split with No. 55 Indiana and Morehead State last weekend where they fell to the Hoosiers 5-2 before downing the Eagles 4-0.
WMU will enter with a 5-3 overall record with all three losses coming against nationally-ranked opponents in No. 20 Notre Dame, No. 62 Tennessee and No. 55 Indiana. Marquette will come into Saturday with a 4-2 record after falling to Iowa 6-1 on Sunday, Feb. 7. The Broncos lead the all-time series 20-8, with the Golden Eagles.
In singles play, freshman Lyubomirova leads the team with a 14-7 overall record while freshman Katja Fevralev is 13-3 and junior Tracy Kuhle is 12-8.
In doubles play, Lyubomirova and Kuhle served as the clinching doubles match against No. 55 ranked Indiana as they beat Kim Schmider/Natalie Whalen 7-5 to give the Broncos the doubles point in the No. 1 spot. Against Morehead State, Kuhle/Lyubomirova once again served as the clinching match after they defeated Ayaka Terashi/Maria Orellana 6-1 in the No. 1 spot. The duo improved to 10-4 this season, a win total that more than doubles the next highest on Western Michigan, while also extending their winning streak to three matches. The duo was honored as the Mid-American Conference (MAC) women's doubles team of the week for their efforts.
