THE MATCH-UPS
This will be the second meeting between the Broncos and the Bulldogs, with Drake holding a 1-0 advantage in the all-time series. The last time the teams met was in the 2011 season, when the Bulldogs defeated the Broncos 5-2 in a neutral site match played at Northern Illinois. The Broncos took the doubles point, as well as one singles match; Ross VanderPloeg defeated Cesar Bracho in three sets, 0-6, 6-3, 6-3.
This will be the 30th meeting between the Broncos and the Hawkeyes, with Iowa holding a slim 16-13 lead in the rivalry. The last time the teams met, though, the Broncos defeated the Hawkeyes 5-2 in a match played at West Hills Athletic Club. The win extended the Broncos' streak of 10 years with at least one win against a Big Ten opponent. Nadin Indre, Ross VanderPloeg, and Aaron Wong all earned singles wins.
FALL MEETINGS
The Broncos and the Bulldogs did not square off in any meetings during the fall season, but there were two matches that saw Iowa and Western Michigan meet up. The Broncos' Jim Beckwith lost the lone singles meeting, but the pairing of Beckwith and Aaron Wong defeated Joey White and Dominic Patrick 8-3 at the Wildcat Invite hosted by Northwestern.
DOUBLE DIP
When it comes to the Mid-American Conference weekly awards, the Broncos double-dipped this week, netting both the conference's Player of the Week, as well as the Male Scholar-Athlete of the Week. Ross VanderPloeg was named the Men's Tennis Player of the Week for his performances against Valparaiso and Youngstown State, posting a 3-1 record and helping the Broncos to a pair of victories. Later in the week, junior Nadin Indre was named the Male Scholar-Athlete of the Week; he too posted a 3-1 record against Valparaiso and Youngstown State, all while maintaing a 3.85 GPA in Business.
