Bronco Baseball Falls in Game One at Central Michigan

MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich.- Western Michigan dropped game one in the final Mid-American Conference series, falling 11-2 at Central Michigan Thursday.

CMU starter Zach Cooper (7-4) allowed just five hits over eight innings and Sean Renzi threw a hitless ninth.

Sophomore outfielder Vinnie Booker doubled and had two of the Broncos' five hits.

Central Michigan scored two runs in the first and WMU tied the game with a run in the top of second and third. The Chippewas went on to score three runs in the bottom half of the third and led the rest of the way.

Bronco starter Casey Webber (4-5) went 5.1 innings, surrendering six runs (five earned) on nine hits, taking the loss. He walked three and struck out four. Casey Hall (four runs, three earned) tossed two innings of relief and freshman Matt Nestor appeared to record the final two outs.

Central Michigan had 13 hits in the game. Western Michigan committed two errors, while CMU made one.

The loss snapped a six-game MAC winning streak for the Broncos.

Western Michigan (24-26, 13-11 MAC) and Central Michigan (29-26, 16-9 MAC) square off in game two tomorrow at 3:05 p.m. and conclude the series Saturday at 2:05 p.m.
