CLEVELAND -- The Mid-American Conference announced today that Western Michigan senior guard/forward Martelle McLemore is the MAC West Men's Basketball Player of the Week. This is the first award this season for the Broncos and the first of McLemore's career.
McLemore was instrumental in Western Michigan overcoming a 17-point first half deficit to defeat Collegeinsider.com Mid-Major No. 8 VCU by 16 points, 83-67. McLemore set new career highs with 22 points, nine rebounds and four assists. McLemore converted on 9-of-13 from the field, including 8-of-9 inside the arc, and 3-of-3 free throw shooting. McLemore had 11 points, six rebounds and three assists in the second half alone.
The Broncos (1-1) play Loyola (Ill.) tonight at 8 p.m. ET before returning home on Saturday for a 2 p.m. game against Patriot League favorite Holy Cross.
