Broncos Sign DeAirra Goss to National Letter of Intent

KALAMAZOO, Mich.- Western Michigan has announced that DeAirra Goss (5-10, forward) has signed a National Letter of Intent to attend Western Michigan next fall and play for the 2009-10 Bronco women's basketball team.

Goss, out of Ben Davis High School in Indianapolis, is considered one of the top prospects out of the state of Indiana. A four-year starter for the Giants, Goss is a tremendous defensive player, and has the ability to play inside or out.

“The moment I became the head coach at Western Michigan, our staff intensely recruited DeAirra,” said WMU first-year head coach Tasha McDowell. “She is a fierce competitor that will do whatever needs to be done to help her team be successful. She is athletic with a lightening-quick first step and loves the defensive end of the floor.”

Averaging 11.2 points and 6.0 rebounds per game over the last three seasons, Goss helped Ben Davis to back-to-back sectional titles and regional appearances. Ben Davis carried a 42-7 record the past two years, competing in the highly competitive Metropolitan Interscholastic Conference.

Currently a high school senior, Goss is a two-time all-conference and all-county selection and added honorable mention all-state to her resume in 2008.

During the summer AAU basketball season, Goss has gotten recognition as a member of the Indy Gym Rats. Also a standout track and field athlete, Goss was a state qualifier on the 1600-meter relay team and in the high jump last spring.

“DeAirra is extremely bright and comes from a wonderful family,” McDowell added. "She is going to be a great addition to our Bronco family.”
