Tiera DeLaHoussaye set a Mid-American Conference record, being named MAC West Player of the Week for the sixth time this season. Only three other players had received the award five times in a single season. DeLaHoussaye earns the honor this week after helping Western Michigan to an overtime win over Central Michigan on Saturday.
DeLaHoussaye has come on big this season for Western Michigan and has the Broncos (12-15, 9-4 MAC) positioned at the top of the MAC West standings with three games to go. The fiesty 5-6 Detroit, Mich., native ranks fourth in the nation in assists (7.7) and 10th in steals (3.4), leading the MAC in both. She is her team's leading scorer (12.0) and second-leading rebounder (6.1), also ranking in the top 20 in the conference in both categories.
Against Central Michigan, DeLaHoussaye scored a career‑high 27 points and dished out 10 assists, leading Western Michigan to a come from behind win in overtime, 98-91. She came up with big plays in the clutch to help WMU erase an eight‑point deficit with 4:29 remaining. Trailing by one with 53 seconds to go, she came up with a steal and hit a jumper on the other end to give WMU the lead, 81‑80. In overtime, she scored seven points and dished out two critical assists. In two games last week, DeLaHoussaye averaged 17.0 points, 8.0 assists, 5.5 rebounds and 3.5 steals.
