DeLaHoussaye Collects Fifth MAC Player of the Week Award

KALAMAZOO, Mich.- Western Michigan junior point guard Tiera DeLaHoussaye has been named MAC West Player of the Week for the fifth time this season and her career.

The five recognitions ties as the most received ever by a single player in a single season. Only three other players in MAC history have earned the award as many times in a season. Buffalo's Tiffany Bell and Kent State's Julie Studer each accomplished the feat in 2000‑01 and Western Michigan's Kristin Koetsier was selected five times in 1999‑2000 when the award was given out based on offensive and defensive performances, rather than voted on by division.

DeLaHoussaye has now collected the award five out of the 13 weeks of play. This week, she earns the honors after helping Western Michigan go 1‑1 with a win on the road at Bowling Green and a narrow loss to Ohio at home, keeping the team positioned at the top of the MAC West standings. DeLaHoussaye averaged 16.5 points, 10.5 assists and 6.0 rebounds over the two games.

In a 40-minute effort at Bowling Green, DeLaHoussaye scored 19 points, including six points of the Broncos' last eight points in the last 1:14 of the game. She gave WMU the go‑ahead basket, 75‑73, pulling up from the free throw line with 22 seconds to go. Tallying her fourth double-double of the season she added 13 assists, while grabbing seven rebounds and four steals in the win. It was the first time since the 2002‑03 season WMU has defeated the Falcons.

In the Broncos' contest with Ohio, DeLaHoussaye had 14 points, eight assists, five rebounds and two steals. With her production over the week, DeLaHoussaye moved into fifth place all‑time in both career steals and assists at Western Michigan.

Western Michigan (9-13, 6-2 MAC) travels to Oxford, Ohio on Saturday, Feb. 9 for a 2 p.m. showdown with Miami.
