PRINCESS ANNE, Md.- Amanda Parker tied a season-high with 15 points, while Ebony Cleary added a career-high 11, but it would not be enough as Maryland-Eastern Shore got the best of Western Michigan, 85-66, on Dec. 3.
Western Michigan (2-6) led once in the game, 6-5, but the rest of the night belonged to Maryland-Eastern Shore, as the Broncos fell in their fourth-straight road game.
The Broncos played evenly with UMES (3-3) in the second half, as each team put 48 points on the board, but WMU could not overcome a 37-18 halftime deficit. The Brown & Gold trailed by as many as 35 in the second half, facing a Hawks' defense that entered the night allowing just 54 points per game.
Western Michigan cut the lead to 14 with 2:12 remaining, but fouled much of the rest of the way in an attempt to manage the clock as UMES pulled out the 19-point victory.
The Broncos shot just 21 percent in the first half before stepping it up to 46 percent in the second, finishing the night shooting 19-for-56 (34 %) from the floor.
Molly Dwyer added 10 points and Maria Iaquaniello had eight for the Brown & Gold in the loss. Tiera DeLaHoussaye recorded a team-high eight rebounds and five assists. Also contributing four steals, she moved into eighth on the school's all-time career steals list, surpassing Kina Brown (167).
WMU held the advantage on the glass, 40-36. Both teams committed 22 turnovers.
Casey Morton and April McBride led the Hawks with 20 points apiece, combining to hit six of the Hawks' 12 three-pointers on the evening.
Having played their seventh road game in their first eight contests, the Broncos have a much anticipated two-week stretch at home, hosting Illinois-Chicago on Dec. 8 and Temple on Dec. 16.
